Torch and Grit (TaG) Test Machine is used to evaluate the performance of battery enclosure materials under simulated battery thermal runaway conditions. The test uses sheet specimens instead of full battery assemblies for material performance assessment, which can effectively reduce development costs and shorten development cycles.

Performance Features

1. Integrated design with steel structure and an open test platform to reduce heat accumulation.
2. A stainless steel smoke hood is mounted on top of the test platform to collect flue gas generated from specimen combustion; exhaust air volume is adjustable.
3. Imported flame-spray burner (consistent with that used in UL laboratories), capable of supplying flame-only jet and flame-grit jet.
4. Outer dimension of the burner nozzle: approx. 28.6 mm diameter, equipped with 30 methane supply ports, 78 oxygen supply ports and grit supply ports.
5. The burner can deliver a 3 kW flame jet and a 1.5 g/s grit-laden flame jet.
6. Spark igniter equipped for ignition.
7. Mass flow controllers regulate methane, oxygen and air flow, with built-in temperature and pressure compensation.
8. Methane mass flow controller: range 0–10 L/min, accuracy better than 2% FS.
9. Oxygen mass flow controller: range 0–50 L/min, accuracy better than 2% FS.
10. Flame baffle equipped, automatically opens during testing.
11. Automatic control for flame application and grit-laden flame.
12. Temperature measurement system with 4-channel Type K thermocouples (30 AWG wire): flame temperature calibration thermocouple, rear-surface specimen thermocouple, thermocouple 25 mm behind specimen rear surface, spare thermocouple.
13. Stainless steel specimen holder with calibration position and test position; automatically moved into place during testing.
14. Control cabinet integrated on the side of the test platform for convenient operation and test observation.
15. Data acquisition system collects temperature (0.1 °C resolution), time (1 s resolution) and grit injection signals.
16. Operating software includes manual and automatic operation modes, featuring flame temperature calibration, manual program, automatic program and report export.
