ASTM D6184 Oil Separation Sieve is suitable for measuring the tendency of lubricating grease to separate oil at higher temperatures.
Place approximately 10 grams of the sample in a metal wire mesh and let it stand still at 100 ℃+1 ℃. After 30 hours, measure the mass percentage of oil flowing through the sieve.
Apparatus and materials
1. Nickel wire steel mesh or stainless steel mesh: 60 mesh, with a metal wire lifting beam above the steel mesh.
2. Beaker: tall, mouthless, 200 ml.
3. Lid: Tightly fitting with the cup, there should be a hook at the center of the lid bottom.
4. Thermostatic box: the temperature can be controlled to 1 ℃.
Experimental procedure
1. Preheat the constant temperature box to 100 ℃+1 ℃. (or at a specified temperature)
2. Weigh a clean beaker (without steel mesh and lid) to an accuracy of 0.01 grams.
3. With minimal stirring, carefully place about 10 grams (accurate to 0.01 grams) of the sample into the steel mesh using a scraper (the steel tip should be filled with the sample), avoiding the formation of bubbles and voids, making the top of the sample smooth and convex to prevent oil accumulation. Use your fingers to wipe off the sample squeezed out from the mesh, weigh the steel mesh that has been loaded with the sample, accurate to 0.01 grams..
4. Place the assembled steel mesh oil separator into a constant temperature box and maintain it at 100 ℃+1 ℃ for 30 hours.
5. After reaching the specified time, remove the steel mesh oil separator from the constant temperature box and cool it to room temperature.
6. Take out the steel mesh from the cup and let the oil on the tip of the mesh drip into the beaker along the cup wall.
7. Weigh the mass of oil in the beaker to the nearest 0.01 grams.
